Yes, I said it, and a year ago I wouldn't have, but tier 9s get pulled up into fights with superships pretty consistently these days, and that takes some of the pressure off tier 7. Unpopular opinion: Gneisenau is the best ship in the line. In ranked, however, where there are fewer enemies and combat usually takes place at closer ranges, they fare better. If you're gonna run 'em, resist the urge to secondary spec 'em and go for a tank build instead. Preußen is at least an improvement on Großer Kurfürst, but that's not saying much. Bismarck is still passable at tier 8 Freddie and Preußen are kinda meh at 9 and 10, respectively. Bad firing arcs leave you vulnerable if you try to unmask your rear turrets, and eight gun broadsides tend to have finnicky dispersion compared to comparable nine-gun ships. They are clumsy and everyone knows they eat huge chunks of full-pen damage into their fat superstructures, so their armor is of dubious value. The german BC line is not armoured very well and does have great torps and secondaries, if you can get past the spam. For that reason the Satsuma is a better choice as you can use the gimmick from long range. Hannover is a special ship but will not really be allowed to use its Gimmick as HE spam will find you everywhere. Prussen is hit and miss and Grosser Kerfurst is pretty decent. The Bismarck is a little better, but is overmatched all the time with tier 10 ships, FDG gets a little better but now you are facing Tier11 alot.
There are too many DDs that like to hide in smoke and spam torps knowing that your guns will not kill them as you are not allowed. Genisneau and Scharnhorst are probably the two ships that need the biggest buff starting with equiping them with Hydro. I dont know how far you have gotten in German line but, for what its worth. You could run a survival build but really it does not help too much as the HE spam will overwhelm you in no time. The game has devolved into a HE spammer game that everybody including BBs will be slinging HE at you. Its not just the German Techline, other nations tech lines have been badly overpowered by numerous ships.
